i have had a cabin on Bowers Lake since 78.
Travelled many miles on ATV and snowmobile. only saw black bear until 6 years ago. 5 of us saw our first grizzly on Wavey Lake Road. Then next year saw a young grizzly cross Highway 24 at lemieux creek.Their natural boundary to the north used to be canim and mahood lake.Lots of them north of that for years.I zoomed in on your picture you posted .IMHO it definitely looks like a grizzly with the distinct hump on back and longer legs. Sightings will only get more as the grizzly hunt is now over for good. Young bears will push south looking for their own territory. tk

(2577) A very large Grizzly bear on the south side of Sheridan spotted this evening.

Hmmm ... I would be very surprised if that was a grizzly as they are extirpated through out our entire region of the cariboo. From North of Quesnel, south to the border. If you really think it was a Griz you may want to report it to the conservation folk as they need to know about him.

Either way ... I don't want to meet him going to the biffy ... Garbage will be kept in the shed from now on ... and it's a great picture.

Yes, I've been in touch with wildsafe BC. They suspect it's the same grizzly that was spotted 5 days earlier near Little Fort. Here was his explanation:

I suspect that there haven't been grizzlies seen in your area for some time because the base population of grizzlies had been extirpated many years ago and the surrounding areas that had had grizzlies had enough room to accommodate the increase in population without forcing young bears out. If bear populations are increasing in neighbouring areas this may contribute to bears showing up where none had been seen before.

Wow ... A Grizzly ... I'm not sure if I'm happy to see them making a comeback or terrified that he's in the neighborhood ... Time to make LOTS of noise when walking in the woods.

We have 2 dogs wondering around the property all day today on Thomas Point Road. One is a tan coloured pup and the other is black. Does anyone know where they belong? The pup has a red collar but no contact info on it.

Steve M Tuesday, 1 May 2018 10:09 AM
Nice selfie John!

Rob Saturday, 5 May 2018 08:59 AM
Well, I'd have to give the prize to Jeff Woods, but both him and Rotten were way closer than I ever thought it would happen. It went FAST this year, and left the lake at a nice level. May Flies are a hatching...

Although, looking at Steves' camera over on the Southshore... Maybe all the ice just blew over to that side! Payback for last year, when they enjoyed several extra days of swimming from there beaches.

Was wondering if anyone knows what the snow conditions at deka lk are like as want to come up but don't want to dig in thanks Mike

Hi, talked to a neighbour who was up last week and there was a foot of snow but temperatures were warm so probably less now. If you have Facebook a couple of groups you could join and ask. One is called Deka Lake and the other Deka Residents.

(2571) Docks are free floating. Don't see any ice fishermen. Haha. Southside road challenging but doable.

Steve M Wednesday, 25 April 2018 09:53 PM
Even with the warm temps, ice off is a ways away. Still snow on the ice and at least 12+ inches.

I was wrong (sort of)... ABC changed there IP addressing scheme which left all of us with static IP's high and dry if we're not there to reconfigure our routers or KIWI cams or traffic cams. A solution is being worked on that will hopefully get things back to normal by end of week? Thanks for your patience and encouragement!
I really do want to see the ice go off on the 19th. :)

Hi Rob it’s appears the webcam is stuck🤷‍♂️. . I am Wondering what the current conditions are at the lake? Thanks anyone

Rob Send E-mail Saturday, 21 April 2018 06:16 AM
I agree... But I think the ball is in ABC Communications court. I have power at the cabin. But the Interlakes traffic cam is down (that's the tower I use) and I can't ping the KIWI camera on Thomas Point. So I think someone at Rona accidently unplugged the extension cord out to the tower... :)

Rob Send E-mail Saturday, 21 April 2018 06:21 AM
For a quick 'fix', The South Shore camera works and is dialed in nicely! and our neighbors at Bridge Lake have there weather cam working... (under the weather tab)
