(2542) It looked like it was going to be an early freeze over, but has turned into a late one. Open water along half the south shore.

There is a skiff of snow on the back road. Compacted nicely as we've been driving on it every day.

Looking at the two week forecast I wouldn't expect there to be any problem driving in for xmas (with a pickup)

Are you frustrated that the Northeast camera image is often cropped and that the Yesterday movies aren't working anymore? Well so am I! LOL

The reason I'm told is that, when that terrible windstorm went through the area last spring, some damage occurred to a piece of equipment upstream to our local ISP. This ends up giving me dropped connection when uploading data.

I'm also told that a solution will fix this 'in the Fall'

Raegan's South Side camera is set up this winter to give us images all year long. Provided it gets enough sunshine...

I also extended the posting time for this form. Any other suggestions?

Thanks, Rob

Switch ISPs? How many megs/gigs do you use a month? Maybe switch to cell based?

ABC confirmed there upgrading the Lone Butte tower that will affect past Bridge Lk,upgrading to a LTE that should help

Cell based services dont work in all areas,Andres will let ya take one out to try,if it dosnt work return it with in 10 days

In fairness to ABC, they were apologetic and offered to make it right with me. I'm hopeful that they will get this straightened out. I've been with them since dial-up and I'd rather my $ went to support a local. So I'll let this play out a little longer... Thanks all for the comments!

We made our first trip up to our cabin since the fire.

A lot of devastation along the way, but thankful to everyone who helped fight the inferno, as it could have been MUCH worst.

I did notice one big difference: the cost of lumber. We needed to buy some OSB sheets for a shed - and the local Rona Interlakes were charging roughly $28 a sheet. Thankfully 108 Mile was only charging $19.95 a sheet, but the price difference was quite a bit from what it was pre-fire. I cannot account for the price difference between the two lumber yards, as I hope that we aren't seeing the price gouging by some places that has been reported.

None the less, I am glad to have our Cariboo back to normal, and looking forward to spending thanksgiving with friends and family.

My condolences to those who lost their homes and cabins on Sheridan before it could be put out. Hopefully they will be able to rebuild quickly.

Once again, thanks to everyone on the forum for the updates during the wildfires!

Evacuation order for south of Hwy. 24 will be lifted at 2pm tomorrow, 16 Sept. 2017.

Good to hear, Bill. We'll be going up then next week to winterize, but not with our usual sense of excitement... I'm not sure how we feel. It's been a long roller coaster ride this summer.

Bill Wednesday, 20 September 2017 09:44 PM
Hi Rob, A little late posting but it is a summer to forget. We are still in Abbotsford but friends went up & checked our place, everything is fine. Too much stress watching the fire getting closer & closer to all our homes. Wonder if the old Snowmobile Clubhouse is still there at Jack Frost Lake? We have decided to relieve our stress by taking a cruise from Vancouver to Hawaii & return. Then will head back up to do everything that was put on hold due to the evacuation.
