Well, I just went out (in a t-shirt) and augured just over a foot of good ice, 1/2 tween clear and that hollow crumbly stuff. I'm seeing quads still going out fishing... so maybe it'll still be around? Course that would make my prediction wrong!
I will add though that the cracks are real. The one you see in the camera running 8 to 3 o-clock is actually 3" wide and I could stick the auger handle down through clear water.
