If you Google the words, "traveling, standing, working on ice", a PDF document will be the top hit. This document is research done by the Alberta Government and is very informative.
It's what I used to talk myself into driving on the lake last year. Some of the info may surprise you.

18" is more than enough to drive a pickup on. Last XMAS I drove my fully loaded pickup and 3 other cars from SPR to my place on the West side on 11 inches no problem. I was nervous, but it was fine. The bigger issue was with some of the slush on the surface....try to avoid that.

alright thank for the info guys. 18 inches is enough for a truck if they are driving fully loaded semi's in the northwest territories on 36 inches!!!!
anyways i just got one more question and that is what has been working good for ice fishing lately? i hear that mule worms are deadly and so are shrimp but any first hand info is greatly appreciated thanks.
btw my cabin is on the west side of the lake if that helps.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day , teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Hi Neil,
I don't get down through Green Lake or your way but now I know that they are there I will make the effort. I have visited Crater Lake before. The "End of the roll" is a good one if you are up our way. I will visit your rnlm.ca again

Hey Tim
We have three caches in the area. Check out GCXOZB, GCXZ3V, GCVG29. If you ever go back to the web page do me a favor and sign the book. We did make it up last weekend. Too much snow and too damn cold for no power. -25 Saturday morning. Still love coming up there.

Was hoping to get an ice update earlier this week when my friend was up but it has not arrived. Think we can be sure it is thicker than the last update after all the cold weather but no real update, sorry.
Add the Redpoles and Junko's to my list of spring birds, they arrived yesterday demolishing the feeders.
