Ahhhhh Ronnie at least you remain the same in this beggerd up world " Full of Fun". The ice has a while to go I think and we need that strong SE Wind to do the job, yesterdays SW blow made a dent but did not do the job YET !!!

I haven't missed a May long weekend in 33 years. That long weeked you were talking about, Stefan, we got there on the Friday and the temp read 29 degrees on my truck's computer. We are on Nath road and there was still ice in the far corner of the bay (but the ice was off everywhere else). It was weird to see, 29 degrees and ice still left on a portion of the lake... this year might be the latest ever unless the weather heats up soon...

About 3 years ago when we went up May long weekend there was still ice on the entire lake. On the Friday it was in the high 20's and the next day all the ice was gone.
Now does anyone know what the thickest the ice has been? Or whats the thickest you have seen? My uncle told me when they used to go up there for Christmas (60's)that the ice was almost hitting the auger handle!! Plus they never could make it in the driveway so they would unload on the ice and would drive on it without hesitation!

On May 18th 1986 I broke the Ice open with my boat from my old property clear down to Sheridan Park Resort. It was a slow trip and I came to a halt a number of times when I hit the snowmobile tracks that were slighly harder. The Ice once broken very quickly moved around and sank. In years following Gil used to get out his boat in early May and circle his Bay to break up the ice so that the early customers could go fishing.

I just conferred with my Mom ... who bought in '56 ... they always went to the Lake for the 24th long weekend. She cannont recall ever going on that weekend and having ice on the lake. She does recall going up a week before and as they went across it was like going thru a big slushy, but that was gone by the afternoon. So, since the weekend is actually on the 20th ... I'm calling the 18th .....

We drilled the ice on the weekend and it was 22 inches off of Lincoln Road. I think a little later in May is probably more realistic!
