Update for snow & ice conditions for anyone coming up for the Family Day Weekend. We had a good snowfall this morning (close to 10cm here) with more forecast for tomorrow. Took our sleds out this afternoon to check the main trails which were in great shape, met 6 other sledders. Will hit the secondary trails tomorrow for trees down etc. Also checked out the lake & no slush or surface water found. Attached is a pic. from a few weeks ago taken with my Go Pro. So, unless we got another meltdown, everything looks good.

Hi there! I am planning to head up over Feb long weekend, and I was wondering if anyone knows how I could go about getting part of the driveway (just enough to get trucks in) plowed before we get there! It is such a pain to dig in every year! If anyone has tips or contact info it would be much appreciated!!

Definitely good advice Tim. Despite seeing quads and sleds on the lake I still drilled it for peace of mind. It measured at 12 inches (Tues Dec 30).

Just a word of note re the thickness of ice.In November things got real cold. All lakes in our area froze over early. Then it warmed up dramatically and the wind picked up. A lot of lakes lost their ice in December. Bowers was one one of them LacDesRoche too.Sheridan, for the most part, kept it's ice. Bowers only got its ice back only on December 29th. Be careful if traveling from lake to lake on snowmobiles.
2 snowmobiles went through the ice at Lac Desroche this last week. Both got out ,but were treated for hypothermia.tk

Yes the ice is thick enough. Lots of skidoos/quads out and about. Some ice fishing huts are up. Pretty ideal lake conditions. About 5 inches of powder on very smooth ice. You could skate around the entire lake.
The back road is still driveable without chains as well.

Does anyone know if the ice on Sheridan is thick enough for snowmobiling?

There used to be a site that tracked weather and ice conditions but I can't find it anymore. I'm wondering what the condition of the ice is since I'm hearing some unfavourable reports. Thanks! :)

Linda, This was the site... Kiwi and Mieke used to live 'off the grid' on the South shore. There AM routine would include keeping the water hole open on the lake, so they were intimate with weather conditions and shared it with us over a satellite internet connection. Kiwi has passed on and Mieke now lives off East Sheridan. So now we just get an occasional report from ice fishermen etc. Unless things change dramatically, I'm looking forward to playing with my Grandchildren this Christmas on the Lake. (after re-auguring a couple of places first)

Looks like open water off big island?? ... or just water over ice?

It's probably just pure clear ice. I augered off of our place and got 2" clear and 4" of softer stuff under it. Everywhere I look it's the same. Sonja Henie would have a blast out there! As for me? I can't skate.
