Looking to see if anyone can head over to Dolman Rd North Horse Lake road and rescue my broken down sled... Can't make it with the 4x4 too much snow. Need to tow it back down to the truck about 2km - My cell # is 778-867-6706 Jordan / That would be mighty neighbourly of ya...

I posted this last year too:

Taken from: www.dnr.state.mn.us

For new, clear ice only

2" or less - STAY OFF
4" - Ice fishing or other activities on foot
5" - Snowmobile or ATV
8" - 12" - Car or small pickup

Note: these guidelines are for new, clear solid ice.
Many factors other than thickness can cause ice to be unsafe.

Reggie, 2", I've read... And it's 4X that, last I checked. For peace of mind, pick yourself up a 6" ice auger from a sporting goods store and after auguring for 5 minutes to get through the ice, you'll feel much more comfortable about standing on it... and warmer! smile

How thick does the ice have to be to walk on? I'm coming up around new years and was wondering if it is safe to walk or skate on around that time.
