hey kiwi, do you have any solar powered fishing rods... lol, it would be a great advantage, since we can't seem to catch a fish in the well lit summertime.

Welcome Stefan, I gather most winter fishers use maggots but I do not know that much as I do not fish !!
I gave you locations where I know they have success usually in and around Christmas.
Ice depths is anybody's guess at the time of year that you speak of but you have to make sure yourself that conditions are safe. You can die out there if you go through.
Do be careful.

Thanks for the information Kiwi. How is the fishing there around xmas and new years? or how about the end of january? Were hoping to head up to the cabin during xmas break and i want to convince my dad that it's just like fishing in the summertime LOL we always have good success in july. Also what do you use for bait? I tried shrimp, krill and muel worms last year but the fish didn't seem to hungry. We were there in March btw. ALso how much ice is there usually around xmas?
cheers

Try the south side of the Island in approx the area where the Island Narrows Stefan. Also try the very east end at the South point.

The Ice managed to hang in there long enough for the wind to drop before the decent snowfall we now have on the ground.
Snowmobile Club scheduled rides are now online in the Calendar.

If it is any help Renee it looks like the Ice may have arrived last night with the minus 8 odd temps. Forecast calls for snow on Sunday through Tuesday and cooler temperatures, sooo maybe Winter will begin after a couple of false starts and right on what I recall as the date that ice normally arrives at
