Well I just returned from the Lake... Loved it! The two older gentlemen (and wives) in my bay, went out every AM and brought back fish... I saw they were dragging pop-gear around the North Point area.

Heading up tomorrow morning, haven't heard anything yet. My Uncle caught one ice fishing a few weeks ago that maxed out his 11 lb scale, said it was the biggest fish he's ever seen out of Sheridan. And he's seen many, so that's saying something...

I know there was Rainbow. I have picture proof of that. My Dad said there was some sucker type fish that was very predatory and was wiping out the rainbow fry. Thus the decision of the fisheries dept. to do the poison thing. Other than the rainbow I'm not sure. My folks were busy building and didn't have much time for fishing. Back when they bought there were no roads on the south side ... that was the late 50's.

So, Rene, what was the fishing like before they poisoned it off? Didn't they have all sorts of species in Sheridan then? We didn't buy until '72...

You guys are just lucky there are fish in our lake. I remember when I was a kid and they poisoned off the lake. All the fish gone. It was one of the biggest lakes they had ever done and they couldn't restock it for a number of years. You wanna talk about bugs. We would sweep two inches of fish fly's off the deck every morning. Mind you, you could skinny dip whenever you wanted too ... no neighbors ... who wanted to come to a lake with no fish???

Sheridan is one of the premier rainbow trophy lakes in the entire country. Why mess with it, keep the kokanee in the other lakes. I don't think Sheridan is considered deep enough for kokanee to thrive, but I'd hate anything to mess with one of the best fisheries in the province and upset the balance...

No reports on fishing at Sheridan Lake yet but we visited our friends at Horse Lake today who manage Bonanza Resort. Fishing there is excellent, one guy came in with a Laker & a 3lb Kokanee while we were there. The lake was stocked last week with Kokanee, why don't we have Kokanee in Sheridan Lake? I have heard stories that fisheries wanted to stock our lake with Kokanee but the old timers (who are now dead & gone) didn't want this as too many ice fishermen would show up during winter????? Time to check to see if we can stock Sheridan with Kokanee!
