If we get the weather to cooperate, Mars will indeed be cool to view. However, it was closer to Earth back on August 27th 2003. That was the closest it has been to the Earth in 60,000 years.
The next time that Mars gets as close to Earth as it did back in August 2003 will be 2287. Regardless, Mars is great to view and whether its 2003 or 2010 the differance is only a few million kilometers so, although you may notice that Mars is a little brighter and redder than normally, dont expect it to grab the naked eye like Hale-Bopp did.

There were 70 new spot fires started in the Cariboo Fire Centre region Tuesday night, with the majority of them ignited by lightning strikes.
The closet to Sheridan Lake is the fire at Bonaparte Lake and we are getting a little smokey haze over the lake today. The fire is less than one hectare in size and they have a significant number of firefighters backed up by helicopter and air tanker support working the fire.

Sorry Folks..
Mars: What direction should we be looking at? I'm heading up this Thursday, can't wait to jump in the lake.

Steve et al,
I should have fact-checked first, seems I got ahold of an email from the 2003 occurance! So Mars will be ordinary, low in the West after sunset. I get soaked without jumping in the Lake! LOL
