Does anyone know if the South Side residents still have Forestery road access.

Steve M Saturday, 19 August 2017 10:03 PM
Yes they do. Have yet to go without. They are just blocking the road that heads towards Watch/Green Lake.

Mark Sunday, 20 August 2017 10:47 AM
Actually, you might want to check into this. My understanding is there is a complete ban on all crown land access in the Cariboo This includes all forestry roads UNLESS it is your permanent residence. Again, I'm not an expert so you might want to check with the Cariboo Regional District.

Mark Sunday, 20 August 2017 11:14 AM
Correction... should read "principle residence"

Mark Sunday, 20 August 2017 11:22 AM
This is what I was looking at. If you look at the prohibition description on the right hand side... http://bcfireinfo.for.gov.bc.ca/ftp/!Project/WildfireNews/8112017~21019_17%20Cariboo%20MAP%20S11%20Prohibition%2020170811%201330%20Info.pdf

My neighbours and I have been going back and forth the past few weeks. I did bring my tax form to prove I owned a property, but never had to produce it.

They might check ID and record your name so they know who and where you are.

They are very friendly military and RCMP. Usually 4-6 guys there at a time. We've taken them burgers, chinese food etc. They've come down to the lake for a swim.

They are at the Sherian West and Sheridan/Rayfield FSRs junction to prevent people traveling south towards the evacuated area, and hopefully to discourage any people with devious intentions from roaming around the South Side.

Raegan Sunday, 20 August 2017 09:21 PM
Just drove in this evening no problems. 5 friendly rcmp and military looking very bored at the Y. A week ago they wanted a destination address but this time just gave stickers to the kids.

I wonder if they will be staying there even though North Green lake is allowed back now.

They revised the area restriction shortly after the initial release to allow access to private property.

Mark Monday, 21 August 2017 07:47 AM
Good to hear everyone and thanks for the info. Raegan, I didn't realize they revised the release but that makes way more sense for all residents. Now let's keep our fingers crossed this will all end soon.

(2420) Sweet, Sweet Rain... Shawn Nystrom found this on a facebook page this afternoon. I assume it was up on Washington Pass when the low passed through?

Bill, Sheridan Lake Monday, 14 August 2017 10:28 AM
Hi Rob, This was on a local Facebook site. I believe it was on Hwy 24 at the top of Little Fort Hill yesterday. The temperature here dropped from 30c to 9c overnight with heavy rain & thunderstorms. But the wildfires are still burning.

Steve M Tuesday, 15 August 2017 12:14 AM
There was no snow on Highway 24 west of little fort, only rain.

Bill Tuesday, 15 August 2017 03:55 PM
Check out the news story on 100 Mile Free Press Steve.

I watched the summit webcam almost the entire day. I must have missed it.

UPDATE....Hwy 24 is closed 34km west of Little Fort due to a wildfire. A tree came down across the power lines & water bombers are on the scene.

Bill Thursday, 3 August 2017 05:03 PM
Good news, they caught the fire in time. Hwy 24 is open again. Getting this information from a highways employee & a friend coming up from Kamloops.

Update from the Information Meeting at Interlakes on August 1st. All ATV's, Dirtbikes etc. are not allowed in the back country or trails due to the extreme fire hazard conditions. We have had North winds for the last few days which has cleared the smoke & hopefully helped the fire situation. BUT, we are still on evacuation alert for anyone coming up for the long weekend.

Steve M Wednesday, 2 August 2017 11:01 PM
Thanks for the info Bill. Quads definitely should not be allowed in the back country at this time, but why isn't that showing on the government website?

http://bcfireinfo.for.gov.bc.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/Bans.asp

The site says there are no restrictions on forest use.

Unless the public was at the meeting, or viewing this website, how would they know?

Bill Thursday, 3 August 2017 08:57 AM
There have been numerous complaints about lack of information from the CRD & BC Wildfires. 100milefreepress.net has the most up to date information. Go to Local News/Information Meeting for the article on the Meeting.

(2416) Thankfully the winds have changed since Saturday. I've been watching the webcams, satellite imagery, and weather forecasts. The fire is moving more south of Sheridan thanks to the prevailing Northwest winds. Those winds are forecast to last through the long weekend and into next week. They are taking the smoke (and fire) away from Sheridan and into the lower mainland via Kamloops. I can't wait to get out of Chilliwack and up to the lake this weekend. The haze/smoke in the Kiwi Cam is likely from the fires around William's Lake, but it doesn't look too bad as evidenced by my neighbour's photo from today.

I was just at the Lake and had to leave due to smoke and ash in the air. Could not see across the Lake and my white boat turned grey/black. This all happened last Saturday. Rotten, I hear you can blow a lot of smoke. We can sure use you now! Praying for the best, for everyone.
